Techie Diva’s Guide to Gadgets

Women were Stylin’ at BlogHerCon July 31, 2005

Filed under: Techie Diva News — techiedivas @ 8:22 pm

This weekend at the BlogHer conference I could not help but notice women with sticker covered laptops.  Forget all those laptop skins, this is a better way to express yourself, while customizing the look of your laptop. I think these gals just started a new trend. Ms Jen and Lauren gave me a bad case of "Gadget Envy" as they were sporting an awesome Nokia 7610. The women looked beautiful and there was just so much information to digest. Our design class had technical difficulties, it seems everyone had problems with WiFi connections.  I think our class had the most class participation due to our techie problems which made so much better. But for those who could not attend we put a few notes together at TechieGirl.Net.  If you could not attend the Blogher Con this year, you should really try your damnest next year. I feel so empowered by the information I received, and the amazing women I met. That’s what is all about, meeting the community of woman bloggers, the support and the camaraderie between women is what makes us a stronger unit.  I feel I have a new perspective of it all. I love you guys! We should do this more often. Viva la Bloger Con! Check out some Flickr Photos.

“Living on” in your Gadgets July 31, 2005

Filed under: Miscellaneous — techiedivas @ 7:15 pm

I ran across this musing by Elisa Camahort, where she asks "When do you delete someone who has died?". It’s so hard for me to delete someone I don’t talk to as much from my cell phone. I can’t imagine how hard it would be deleting from my contacts a friend who has passed away. Elisa says:

But like Jason, running across her name is a little moment of reminder. A little space in the day when I think of her. Does that mean I would never think of her again if I deleted her virtual presence from my life? Doubtful. I have a picture of her in her 30s next to one of her in her 80s on my piano. But somehow it just seems so final and so over to "delete" her, to "erase" her. One of those cliches that people say when someone dies is that someone is never gone as long as they live on in your heart.
I think perhaps I’ve expanded the cliche to say: no one is really gone while you keep them in your gadgets, including iPhoto.

What do you do?  I thought I should share this post with you. At least you’ll like to know you’re not alone.

It’s been a long week, I need some pampering July 31, 2005

Filed under: Beauty — techiedivas @ 1:11 am

Girl2 This week has been a busy one. I had a lot of work, a lot of blogging, and a lot of learning at the Blogher conference. I am so due for a good pampering. I headed out to SheFinds.com in search of some ideas, and I found an all-in-one pedicure in a bottle treatment from Miss Oops that should take care of my tired feet.  A Whipped Body Cream by Bella,  an anti-oily face base skin primer, and would not mind a trip to the REN facial Sava Spa that has catered to Uma Thurman, Christy Turlington and Liam Neelson. As a matter of fact, that’s exactly what I need a nice Ko Bi Do facial. SheFinds finds it all for me, now I just need someone who will buy it all for me. Any volunteers? Just asking…

Plush Gator and Hippo USB keychains July 28, 2005

Filed under: Gizmos — techiedivas @ 7:23 pm

Products_fancy_photo01e The Fancy Mobile Disk title doesn’t do these little critters any justice. What’s fancy about them? I would have preferred Hungry, Hungry Hippo USB Keychain or Gator Trader USB Holder. Anyway, these little guys hold a portable USB storage device to carry your school reports or office files.  It has a carabiner so you can attach it to your backpack, purse or use it as a key chain.

Martini’s , Anyone? July 28, 2005

Products_mp3_photo02e  If you shake this Martini Shaker MP3 player really fast, you might get some deliciously wicked symphonies to pour out. The HOST MP3 player comes in 128MB-512 MB and 1GB capacities. It is USB powered, and has a removable USB flash drive type memory.  It supports MPEG, WMA, ASF and OOG. The FM trasmitter allows car stereo playback, which is great if you don’t have a tape player. It’s really not a martini shaker, but it looks like one, even though they call it "Bullet".

Digital Locket MP3 Player July 27, 2005

Digitallock

The "Digital Locket" MP3 player has earned its name by displaying photos during playback.  Its SNT Color display can display images the size of 100×65 pixels. The headset acts as a necklace pretty much like the iPod Shuffle, except that this little capusule player has a lot more features and style.  These coin sized players have Voice recorder, FM tuner, support MP3 and WMA, and come in 1GB capacity. They are very lightweight and battery life is up to 16 hours.  Very fun to look at, will make a young teen very happy.I4U did a nice little review of the "tech bling" player here. Price: $99.99 at BeatSounds.

Ferv30_1Life in the Fast Lane!  Only a Ferrari aficionado would feel exhilaration when seeing this handset. I would have the same feeling if I actually got to ride in a Ferrari, but for some this gizmo will have to do. Vodaphone announced that in mid-August 2005 they plan to offer this Ferrari Edition handset by Sharp.  The V302SH is very stylish and said to fit snugly into the palm of ones hand. It weighs 90 grams and features Mobile ASV LCD for wide angle viewing, simple mode for easy operation by beginners and customization options to change menu screens and icons.  The Ferrari red model features the Ferrari logo and car graphics display screens. So you noticed our makeover heh? We get tired of looking at the same ole design just like you do, so we wanted to treat your eye a bit and give Techie Diva a more edgy make over as she goes through her "Retro Rebel" stage. But no matter what we dress her in, she still looks adorable.  We want to offer you a FREE Wallpaper Download to give your laptop or computer screen a makeover too. We probably will keep changing and experimenting with the backgrounds, so keep checking back. Yeah, we tend to get a bit creative around these parts, not to mention, bored. Hope you enjoy this little treat!  Thanks to Charlene Chua for dressing up our Diva, she is a phenomenal artist.
