Solar Powered EZ-Tent June 30, 2006

Filed under: House Gear — techiedivas @ 4:23 pm

The thing I hate the most about camping is running out of juice for my battery operated stuff. Here is a clever solution to this problem. Woods Solar Powered EZ-Tent comes with a set of solar panels that can be used to charge batteries or run LED light ropes that are integrated into the tent. There is also a central light that can be used as a flashlight or just keep it as a center light. For 2-4 hours of light, you will need to charge the tent for about 4-6 hours in direct sunlight. Another really great feature is that you can set the lights to come on once the sun sets. The tent comes in a 4-person and a 6-person version and will run $180 and $230 respectively.

Techie Diva @ Yahoo! Tech June 30, 2006

Filed under: Techie Diva News — techiedivas @ 4:28 am

Dsc02320Thanks to Backstage Creations, I was backstage at the BET Awards checking out all the swag celebs get to take home with them. Besides the usual diamond encrusted watches, designer duds, and yummy liquor, celebs like Jaime Foxx, Beyonce, Lil John and Mary J Blige got to take home some cool gadgets. Read all about it on my Yahoo! Tech column, and find out how some lucky celebs are burning 150 calories in ten minutes on a stationery machine. No wonder they’re so thin. Ten minutes on this machine equals to 30 minutes at the gym. Here’s some images of the event.

This week over at Yahoo! Tech:

  1. BET Awards Swag: Pocket Surfer
  2. BET Awards Swag: TurboSonic Vibrations
  3. Left Your Cellphone Charger at Home? No problem!
  4. Breathalyzers: Test Your Alcohol Levels
  5. How To Avoid Risky Sites
  6. Babies Go Geek Chic

Have a great 4th of July weekend!

USB Guitar Memory June 29, 2006

Filed under: Gizmos — techiedivas @ 2:31 pm

I have seen so many different designs for USB flash drives out there. Here is one that will appeal to the music lovers out there. The Mini Guitar USB Memory stick has 256MB worth of memory and is available in the colors of black and white. The drive measures 160mm x 46mm x 20mm, weighs about 16 grams and is compatible with both Windows and Mac. GeekStuff4u warns that this item cannot be played, but it is still a very interesting design. It even comes with its own guitar case. The price is a little steep at $70 for only 256MB of memory, but I think that in this case I might have to cave in and get one.

I’m married to a carpenter June 29, 2006

Filed under: House Gear — techiedivas @ 12:49 am

Ok, so I’m married to a carpenter and what types of gadgets impress me the most?  Wooden ones.  I have seen the wooden mouse, the wooden computer mod., the wooden car/boat and many other ideas. What I haven’t seen yet is this wooden LED clock!

I got so excited over this as a gift idea that I forgot all the details for a moment.  ThinkGeek is offering the LED clock where the time glows from inside.  I’m amazed.  Small things might thrill me but a working clock like this is just plain functional.

Not only is it a clock but it has features.  With a normal display, blinkie display or a slide display option, you will have hours of fun with this block of wood.

With a three button interface to program your clock, AC adapter (120V) and instructions, you can’t go wrong.  I live in a log cabin home so this will fit right in…so well, it might be lost!

Pivi the Portable Printer June 29, 2006

Filed under: Gizmos — techiedivas @ 12:48 am

I love taking digital photos.  I love, even more, sharing them with others.  This little gadget caught my eye because it seems so portable yet could be practical in some situations.  I know when we have family functions everyone says ’send me a copy of that photo later’ and this makes that request much easier.

Enter the Pivi MP-300, portable printer.  This ultra mobile printer will make sharing photos easier.  Made by Fujifilm this light and small printer may not print with the best quality but it serves its mobile purpose.

Printing resolution of 254dpi and the ability to run it off IrDA or USB will make it even more usable.  Planned to be released at around $150, the tag isn’t that heavy and you will probably want to check this out.

Sounds stylish… June 29, 2006

Filed under: Music Players — techiedivas @ 12:47 am

If you, like me, enjoy gadgets with both good design and good sound, you’ll want to check out the pendant-style N10 flash device.   The iRiver N10 holds 512MB of music to give your ears the sound they crave.  Completely mobile and with such sharp looking features, you’ll take the iRiver with you most anywhere just to show it off.

Touted as being smaller than a cigarette lighter and sleek styled with black and silver accents, the iRiver is also designed to be worn around your neck for ease of use.

  • 8 EQ presets
  • EQ limit function (to avoid distortion)
  • Power on/off timers
  • Variable playback speeds
  • Screensavers
  • Built-in mic for taking voice memos

The only thing I heard about this item that you might want to consider was that the battery life was not up to par.  Other than that, you can view the more detailed review over at cnet.com and check out the iRiver to see if it’s for you.  I’m certainly putting this one on my "might need soon" list.

Pink DS Lite in Japan June 27, 2006

Filed under: Gaming — techiedivas @ 11:35 pm

Pinkds_1 Don’t know how to discourage your boyfriend from picking up your new Nintendo DS Lite? Wait for the Pink one! Nothing screams to a man "Don’t go there" like the color pink. Sometimes I wish my car was pink, but that’s another story.  While Americans can only get the white one in stores, the Japanese have two other colors, and now the pink version will be released on July 20th. I hope it comes to the States soon, because I’m tired of sharing my new DS lite. (Product Page)
