Leica M8 Camera October 18, 2006

Filed under: Digital Cameras — techiedivas @ 4:34 pm

German engineering into a camera? Yea, well, this is it!! The Leica M8 is the ultimate old school feel camera with the new school technology. From the front is looks like the classic Leica camera, but when you turn it around and you see the 2.5′ LCD, then you know it is a digital camera. The camera can store up to 4gb of memory card so you can pack all the pictures from this 10.3mega pixel camera. The camera is like the Hummer of all cameras because it is made out of magnesium alloy. Heck, the silent electronic metal-blade slotted shutter provides for exposure times of up to 1/8000
second. That is crazy!! Plus is has all the normal functions that a professional photographer would want. It also has the price of a professional camera starting around $5,000.  Nick

Oversized Camera. Ya Think? September 21, 2006

Filed under: Digital Cameras — techiedivas @ 1:49 am

SeitzWhen I first saw it, I thought it must surely be a joke. Why would anyone need such an oversized camera? I still don’t know the answer to what that might be, but I do know this is real, and a very serious piece of equipment. It touts a resolution of 7,500 pixels vertically and 21.250 pixels horizontally that create images with over 160 million pixels.  A 640×480 touchscreen display is located on the back, and appears to be wireless and removable. A 6×17 digital photo (uncompressed) is about 950MB, so images have to downloaded to a connected Mac Mini computer. As you can expect, there are too many features to list, but if you’re a serious photographer, you can read all about it here.

The Seitz 6×17 Digital panorama Camera will be released early next year for a cool $36K.

CannondiamondThere is only one place for diamonds: on my body. Forget bling on your gadgets, that’s what Swarovski cystals are for. But the rich prefer diamonds on their grill, bras, shoes, and digital cameras. So Cannon has covered their special edition IXUS digicam in 380 diamonds to celebrate their 10th birthday. In this case, it really doesn’t matter who buys it, as long as they do. Turns out the Cannon IXUS is being auctioned off to raise money for the Red Cross. (Shiny Shiny)

Samsung and 10 Megapixels July 19, 2006

Filed under: Digital Cameras — techiedivas @ 6:18 pm

Coming soon to a store near you, August of 2006, is the new Samsung ‘S’ Series cameras.  Aimed to capture the beginner digital camera user and the professional photographer, the ‘S’ series has feature packed options and ease of use.  Featured photo is the NV series just released which I also mention.

The S700 and the S1000 are both being released and talked about heavily with the NV series that is already out.  The S1000 supports MPEG-4, a high-compression, high-quality video format already used in some cameras.  The S700 offers MJPEG video recording.  The S1000 touts the ability to capture more than one hour of high quality (640×480) video at 30fps with a 256MB memory card in use.  Also, the 3x optical zoom is available during video recording.  I haven’t seen this in use elsewhere just yet.

The cameras will include many special effects options to play with and seem to have new features that the NV already includes…but with more gusto.  Watch for the release and visit the Samsung site for more detailed information on the NV series that is already available.

Digimax S700
MSRP – $249.99

Availability – August 2006

Digimax S1000

We’ve come to know Acer as a company with cool notebooks–think the Ferrari–or the ever popular Acer TravelMate 8204WLMi. We’ve also come to accept that they have great monitors,  and a decent media center, so seeing their new flagship camera is an interesting diversion.
