CES Download: PSP Controlled Car January 12, 2006

Just how many LCD screens can you fit in a car? This 1994 Honda Civic had me wondering just that, as 24 LCDs were implanted throught the vehicle. Later we found out that this car also has a special ability, it can be controlled by a PSP. Using WiFi, you can control the lights, opening the door, and driving it down the street. PSP Cave reports that the car is even eco friendly, as Metro Electronics in America turned it into an electric car so they can fit for amps. The car is not in the market, but we all know everything has a pricetag, and this car goes for $250,000.  We took some pics of many Pimped out Rides while at CES, so check out the photostream. (the one below is only for the Honda, but look for the CES Auto album)

CES Download: Two-Ways to share an LCD January 10, 2006

Wouldn’t it be nice to eliminate the need for multiple televisions by sharing one display to watch TV and surf the internet at the same time? Sharp is on to something with this two-way viewing angle LCD. This panel works in dual-mode to display simultaneously two crystal-clear, high-quality images with no intermingling, or in single-mode so everyone sees the same program. This technology is only available in Japan, and according to one Sharp representative, it may be available at the end of this year right here in the States. Sound would be transmitted to each viewer accordingly, but it’s something the company continues to work on. How would this technology help in your household?

Board games may soon be taken to the next level thanks to a new breed of electronic digital tables. Netherlands based Philips Electronics unveiled at CES a new concept that will have board gamers upgrading to a whole new technology. The Entertaible (not a spelling error) tabletop gaming platform seeks to combine the social element of board games and the excitement of electronic games. The existing prototype has a 30-inch touch-screen LCD display built into a table, and interacts with multiple players by using dice, pawns or even their fingers. Some enhancements to this working model include the ability to physically store games, digitize classic board games, and internet download functionality. Are you ready to upgrade your board game classics or keep it old school?

CES Download: Keep Track of Your Kids January 9, 2006

Tracking phones for kids are becoming increasingly popular, so much that Hop-on will launch a GPS assisted tracking phone so parents can have peace of mind when their child is away. The Chitter Chatter phone for kids has both a phone and LBS tracking capabilities, which allows the user to send the address of their location to their parents’ cell phones via SMS message or if they forget, parents can track their children over the internet by sending an SMS message to their kid’s phone and within one minute the phone will send back the exact location of their child. Parents will also be able to program up to 9 phone numbers, and can even control who calls their kids phone. The phone will retail for under $50, and comes with 10 Chat-Track minutes, after that you pay-as-you-go. A $50 Chat-Track card buys you 285 minutes, just to give you an idea. The phone is packaged in a lunchbox style case, which gives it instant appeal. It also includes a speaker phone, watch band, neckstrap, backpack clip and headset.

Vapir showed me a few of their portable digital vaporizers that allow you to smoke tobacco or other plants used in aromatherapy such as eucalyptus. The Air2 Vapir system uses convection technology to heat up herbs transforming them into an aerosol mist. Hot air is then blown through an herbal disk which releases a full flavor without the toxic elements created by smoking. Pre-filled herbal disks are available if you want to try a mysterious blend of herbs, or you can pack the disk yourself.

The company also has an alternative system for smokers called the NicoHale System for a more natural smoke. NicoHale removes all the harmful elements found in cigarettes like tar, carbon monoxide, and nicotine. The system includes a digital vaporizer, oil blends, and a one week supply of herbal disks.

CES Download: AOL Sets up a Pampering Tent

CES can leave one tired, overwhelmed, and just ready for a deep tissue massage. Although, that is not possible on CES grounds, one tent that caught my attention was the AOL Retreat Tent.  These guys had a nice pampering area for tired CES enthusiasts. They had a place where masseus would give you a phenomenal foot massage to energize your little toes. Vonage had a free long distance booth, Movielink was giving away a Dell, and my favorite was the Print and Email photo booth they had on-hand that lets you email a picture, as well as a short video. They also had a little bar section where folks were enjoying a few beers and sports game. It’s nice to have a place to unwind, that place is a mad house.

Photo Courtesy of Yahoo! by Roger HibbertThere was a little bit of Hollywood glitz on CES grounds, as A and B listers kept popping up all over the place. The most talked about star-sighting was TomKat’s. Tom Cruise showed up with Katie in tow, as he was slated to join Terry Semel at Yahoo’s Keynote event. According to Malik’s Blog, Tom Hanks, and Snoop were also in the crowd. Ellen DeGeneres, Portia Rossi, Nicole Richie, Xzibit, Jeremy Pivens and others greeted fans in their own room at the Yahoo! Tenthouse. The after-party scene was also happening with appearances by the Black Eye Peas at Intel, The Killers at Microsoft, Black Crowes at AMD, and Stevie Wonder at Monster Cable.

CES Download: Samsung brings home the World’s Largest Displays

I’m back, and in serious need for another vacation. Roaming the floors at CES was extremely exhausting, but we managed to take hundreds of snapshots in case you didn’t make it to CES this year. Soooo many gizmos fighting for your attention all at once, but only a handful of them really grabbed us by the eyeballs so we’ll start off with those.  One of them was of course in the Samsung section. We probably spent a a good hour in their booth just taking in all their electronics. They had a "World’s Largest" section with four walls, each displaying some enourmous TV sets that included the 82" LCD TV, LED-Based LCD 82", the Largest Commercialized Plasma TV 80" and the World’s First 102" Plasma you keep hearing about.
