Donny Doggie Webcam June 27, 2006

Filed under: Computers — techiedivas @ 11:30 am

I love gadgets that are cute and functional. I saw the Donny Doggie USB Web Cam and wrist cushion and I was in love. This little fella can be used as a web cam and can capture images in VGA 640 x 480 resolution using a 350k CMOS sensor. When you are not taking candid shots of yourself surfing the internet, you can use Donny as a wrist cushion to help relieve the strain of constant computer use. I am all about multipurpose items, and with a price of $23, this cute guy will definitely have a home on my desktop.

Lenovo F20: Coca-Cola Laptop June 26, 2006

Filed under: Computers — techiedivas @ 3:35 am

Not only is this laptop themed after Coca-Cola but it’s also marketed toward the 2008 Olympics which will be held in China.  It carries the Coca-Cola logo along with China’s 2008 Olympics rings on the top, just under the Lenovo logo.  If you’re a crazed enthusiast of the Olympics, this is definitely a laptop you’ll want to budget for.

It will sell for around $1600-$1700 and it is feature packed as follows:

  • Intel M778 processor (1.66GHz)
  • Intel 915GMS chipset with GMA900 display chip
  • 12.1" wide screen monitor
  • 512MB DDR2 memory
  • 80GB hard disk
  • External combo drive
  • WiFi, Bluetooth, 56K modem and a 100Mbps ethernet port
  • Built in 1.5W stereo speaker
  • 3 USB ports and 1 IEEE1394 port
  • All-in-one memory card reader
  • Dual batteries for 8.5 hours usage
  • Weight: 3.1 lbs.

I have to agree with others when it’s said that the laptop itself is not that powerful and for the amount of cash they are asking, it is more of a ‘collectible’ type purchase for an enthusiast.

NEC Mobilepro 780 Portable Computer June 15, 2006

Filed under: Computers — techiedivas @ 1:30 pm

NEC has a system up on their site that claims to be a complete productivity solution in a package so thin (1.1") and so light (1.7lb.) that it can go with you practically anywhere.  I think this sounds like a nice option.  I took a look at it and it seems rather practical for use in some situations.

Used by a mobile professional, this would really give you what you need.  24MB RAM with 32 MB ROM, Handheld PC with Pocket versions of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Internet Explorer and Outlook installed.  It also has a 168 MHz MIPS processor to supply the speed you need.  You get a stylus, AC Adapter, VGA cable, serial cable, RJ-11 telephone cable, rechargeable lithium-ion battery, Microsoft ActiveSync  CD and user guide with this model.

Sounds very similar to an IPAQ that I once owned and I used it all the time for keeping contacts, calendar dates and basic things.  If I had set it up to use the internet and I was able to further use it to access all the programs listed above, I think I would have taken it with me just anywhere.

Take a look on the NEC site and consider this as an option if you’re wanting to go mobile.

Alienware is releasing a Superman themed desktop and laptop in anticipation of the new movie Superman Returns. Both Machines will have a Superman mouse pad, desktop theme and certificate of authenticity. These are limited editions and only about 250 desktops and 350 laptops are going to be available. The fully customizable Area-51 notebook is powered by an Intel Core Duo processor. It features the Superman logo on the lid of the blue laptop. The Area-51 Superman Edition Desktop is powered by a dual-core Pentium D processor and the case feature artwork by Tommy Lee.
