Bumper Dumper August 30, 2006

Filed under: Miscellaneous — techiedivas @ 9:38 am

I love going camping, but sometimes “roughing it” is not very fun, especially when you have to go to the bathroom. VacationGadgets.com has an interesting solution to your bathroom needs. It is called the Bumper Dumper and it attaches to your vehicles trailer hitch. Now you do not need to mess with the hassle of digging a hole, or finding a portable restroom. All you have to do is find a secluded spot, hook it to the hitch and you are ready to enjoy your portable office. For those of us who would rather not have to hold there toilet paper rolls while they are concentrating, there is also a toilet paper roll holder available.

High Tech Trash August 29, 2006

Filed under: Miscellaneous — techiedivas @ 9:31 am

With technology advancing as fast as it is, we tend to forget about the old technology and what happens to it. The U.N. estimates that worldwide we’re disposing of 20 to 50 million tons of electronic equipment each year. What makes this kind of waste a problem are the unforeseen dangers that lie within. Each piece of equipment can contain numerous toxic and hazardous materials including lead, cadmium, chromium, mercury and many synthetic chemicals that are persistent pollutants. This means that the pollution can stick around for years and accumulate in animals and people and can cause serious health problems.

Elizabeth Grossman has a book called High Tech Trash that discusses the many dangers of this “e-waste.” I personally never thought about all the things that can possibly hurt the environment with my old gadgets being thrown out. If you are interested in learning about all the hazards, then a copy of this book would probably be a great start.

Drink Your Breakfast

Filed under: Miscellaneous — techiedivas @ 1:02 pm

Do you love having cereal for breakfast, but do not have the time to sit down to a bowl? Sure you can get the cereal bars, but after awhile you get tired of those and you do not get the cool refreshing taste of actual milk. Brain Twist offers a unique way to have your cereal and milk on the go. Liquid Cereal is a blend of your favorite cereal and fat free milk. It is offered in a variety of flavors like Apple Cinnamon, Fruit, Peanut Butter, and Chocolate. There isn’t a lot of information on the company’s website yet, but I will be picking up a case of this stuff as soon as I see it at my local grocery store.

Tour San Diego in Coupes? August 22, 2006

Filed under: Miscellaneous — techiedivas @ 2:55 pm

A new way to tour the city–Tour Coupes!  San Diego has launched a tour coupe rental company with tons of locations around the city.  You can rent a coupe and get a narrarated GPS-powered tour which includes sound effects, video, maps and photos of the "sensed" area.  Each coupe is colorful and they fit two adults in each vehicle.

The top speed is 30mph so you can expect to have a relaxing ride while viewing local history, hearing stories of the area you are in and generally being ‘shown around’ by an electronic gadget.

A gallery is included on the site so you can see the Tour Coupes in action with visitors from around the world.  I can imagine a ride near a beach would be more fun that one centered around a city area.  I wonder how long it will take for this to become a widespread thing?

I remember as a girl riding in double-pedal double-seated carts while visiting Galveston.  Is this taking the place of the manpower it took to ride in the past–but adding the luxury of gadgets to make the tour more wholesome?  I think so.

Protect Your Phone

ABITAX Pocket-L and Pocket-S is simply a neat pouch for your cellphone.  This neat gadget holder will serve a dual purpose in keeping you stylish and keeping your gadgets protected.

Use with a cellphone, iPod or other device and store your gadgets neatly while keeping them nice and warm, too.  Now, going through the ABITAX site leads me to the pricing which is in Yen.  I’m sure if you do some translating, you could figure out how to order this pouch for yourself.

I think they lend a very unique and stylish look to the usual boring leather cases.  There are ten different color combinations to choose from and a fairly visual site.

Absorbing Keyboard Covers August 20, 2006

Absorbing Keyboard Covers

Screenprotect2
Laptop Guru Tom Bihn designed this keyboard cover. It is actually a cover
you use when you are not typing, so
that the grease and dirt from your keyboard does not get transferred onto the
screen when the laptop is closed. Not only does it protect the screen from the
keyboard-dirt and grime, it also absorbs dirt and oil from the keys.

The keyboard cover is called the ‘Ultrasuede’ and this made-up name refers to the equally
synthetic material the suede is made of. It feels nice though and it matches
whatever you’d like your laptop to match to, because it comes in Graphite,
Kiwi, Salmon and Cobalt.

I personally like the pad even when my laptop is open and
I’m watching a movie, it just minimizes the amount of air-borne dust and dirt from
flying into the keyboard. When you have pets, that’s especially handy!

Zaky Infant Pillow

Filed under: Miscellaneous — techiedivas @ 8:51 am

Most babies are comforted by a parent’s touch, but there are times when it is not possible, namely when you are trying to get a couple hours sleep before the next feeding. If you do not want your child waking up every ten minutes because you are not right next to them, then the Zaky Infant Pillow is a way to help. This pillow is very handy and can help to sooth your baby when they are trying to go to sleep. These were first developed for premature babies in the NICU that had to be separated from their mothers. Eventually this idea caught on with older babies. This pillow is very flexible and can be used while your child is in any position. The Zaky is safe to use in any place, including neonatal and pediatric hospital units, car seat, etc. The Zaky meets the specifications of items that are admissible in the infant’s bed. If you were thinking of picking up a Zaky, it will run you about $35.
